For Immediate Release
The University of Hawai`i at Hilo hosts a week-long series of events this week to help new, returning and transfer students prepare for the fall semester. "Fall Orientation 2002" concludes on Friday, August 23. "One of UH Hilo's enduring strengths is our commitment to provide students with personalized instruction," said Chancellor Rose Tseng. "The orientation activities are designed to familiarize students with the services and programs we provide, while making them feel at home on campus."
Off-island students planning to live on campus were greeted and picked up at the airport on Sunday and taken to their respective residence halls. The next five days will feature a variety of events to help familiarize students with various services and procedures. Academic advising, placement exams, financial aid interviews, and resource tours are among the scheduled activities. In addition, there will be ongoing opportunities throughout the week to obtain student ID cards, tuberculin skin tests, and vaccinations for the mumps, measles and rubella.
Scheduled recreational activities and excursions include new student receptions, a welcome luau, women's exhibition volleyball and bowling, along with field trips to Akaka Falls and Volcanoes National Park, and a dance party.
A detailed schedule of activities is available by calling the Office of New Student Orientation at (808) 974-7381. For disability accommodations, please call (808) 974-7381 (voice) or (808) 974-3334 (TTY).
