Chancellor’s Message

On behalf of our University ‘ohana, I send Aloha to our new faculty! They are a wonderfully diverse group of outstanding scholars, many with international experience, adding to UH Hilo’s unique multi-cultural community. It’s been a pleasure getting to know them, and I’m proud to welcome:

Masters receives permanent status

The University of Hawai‘i Board of Regents recently approved a change in status for the Master of Arts degree in Hawaiian Language and Literature from provisional to established in the Ka Haka Ula O Keelik?ani College of Hawaiian Language at the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo.

UH Hilo has the most developed effort in indigenous language revitalization in the United States and has become a national model for successful language revitalization. This master of arts program is the only one in the United States focusing on a Native American language.

Chancellor receives prestigious award

October 17, 2002

National Cheng Kung University of Taiwan recently elected UH Hilo Chancellor Rose Tseng as one of four recipients of the Outstanding Alumni Achievement Award. The university’s School of Science nominated Tseng for the award.

“Your achievements and contributions to the field of Nutrition are widely acknowledged with great respect,” writes Chiang Kao, president of National Cheng Kung University, in the notification letter. “We are proud of having you as one of the most accomplished and valued alumna, and we would appreciate the opportunity [of] making you the model of our students by presenting you with this award.”
