Welcome to the Spring 2002 semester!
The year 2002 will bring us many challenges, and at the same time, many opportunities. I am pleased to see that in response to changing economics and international events, our University ‘ohana is working together to secure our future by responding quickly and successfully to the needs of students, the community, and the entire region. By staying focused on our primary mission of providing excellent undergraduate liberal arts and professional programs, select master’s degrees, and opportunities for students and faculty to engage in research activities, we will remain true to our commitment of improving the economic, cultural and social development of our community. I applaud the entire University community for pitching in to make UH Hilo the best it can be!

The University of Hawai‘i Board of Regents (BOR) has announced the establishment of a Master of Arts Degree in China-U.S. Relations and a Bachelor of Arts in Administration of Justice at UH Hilo. The announcements were made at the board’s monthly meeting held Jan. 18 on O‘ahu.
“The master’s program in China-U.S. Relations has been developed to build on existing strengths of the university, as well as a long-standing academic relationship between UH Hilo and Peking (Beijing) University,” said UH Hilo Chancellor Rose Tseng.
“It provides an academic foundation for the proposed China-U.S. Center at UHH, a unique cooperative partnership between business and academic interests in both Taiwan and the Peoples Republic of China.”

Good morning. I am very pleased to once again have this opportunity to come before you and highlight the achievements and potential of the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo, as part of the UH system.
