Who is Covered?
Hawaii Government Employees Association (HGEA)
Employees within Units: 02-Blue Collar Supervisors, 03-White Collar Non-Supervisors, 04-White Collar Supervisors, 08-APT, 09-Registered Professional Nurses, 13-Professional and Scientific; and Excluded Managerial and Confidential Employees.
University of Hawaii Professional Assembly (UHPA)
All faculty in Bargaining Unit 07, which includes instructor, researchers, librarians, specialists, and extension agents at UH Hilo, UH Manoa, UH West O'ahu, and UH Community Colleges.
How is a Complaint Made?
HGEA
Call HGEA for a determination of the grievance which may then be filed in accordance with the appropriate contract. HGEA may also assist an employee in filing a complaint with EEOC.
UHPA
The grievance procedure covers both informal and formal resolution of grievances. A formal grievance statement is prepared, either by the individual or with the assistance of UHPA. The form can be received by contacting UHPA.
What is the Time Limit?
HGEA
A grievance must be presented to the appropriate supervisor within 20 working days after the occurrence of the alleged violation. Members of the HGEA Excluded Managerial and Confidential Employees Chapter must contact AFSCME as soon as possible.
UHPA
Individuals must file grievances within 20 calendar days from the time they become aware of the violation. The timeline may be extended for grievances of a continuing nature. Class grievances must be filed within 45 calendar days.
