What is Prohibited?
Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972
Discrimination against students and employees on the basis of sex.
Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964
Discrimination based on race, color, or national origin.
Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990
Discrimination on the basis of disability.
Age Discrimination Act of 1975
Discrimination on the basis of age in the provision of services only (housing, admissions, financial aid, counseling, etc.).
(Age discrimination in employment complaints are investigated by EEOC under the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967.)

Covers students and certain empoyees.
Covers students only.
How is a Complaint Made?
A formal complaint may be initiated by a letter to the Office for Civil Rights, or by filing a complaint form obtainable from the Office for Civil Rights.
What is the Time Limit?
180 days. OCR may extend the time if "good cause" is shown.
