The conference fee is $35 for the two-day conference (actual cost is $75 with part of the cost covered by outside grants). Schools with a career pathways program may have funds available for this activity.  Other schools are encouraged to seek funds from alternative sources to assist the students.  A limited number of scholarships may be available to students with financial need.

To encourage attendance from out-of-town high schools, arrangements have been made for overnight stay at the UH Hilo campus dorms.  The cost is $38.50 for two to a room.  Appropriate adult supervision is expected.

A special evening university program is included as part of the regular program. As an added feature to the conference, there is an Art Contest and an Essay Contest that is open to all high school students, not only attendees.  The contests will revolve around the theme of respect and concern for the elderly and for kids.  Descriptions of each of these contests along with contest rules are enclosed.  Cash prizes of $100, $50 and $25 will be awarded with winners announced at the opening ceremony of the Pulama I Ke Ola conference on May 21.

A conference program, registration forms and contest rules were sent out to counselors at the local high schools..  There is limited seating, so register early.  If you have any questions, feel free to call the Nurse CARE office at 933-1661.

**NEW** Special funding available for the following (call 933-1661 for details):

1) Title 1 high schools can receive funding for bus/ vans.

2) West Hawaii high schools ( Pahoa, Kohala, Kealakehe, Konawaena) can receive funding for registration and dorms.
