2008 Ho‘opili Hou: Student Leadership Conference
January 24-26 at Kaua‘i Community College
Sponsored by Hawai‘i Association of Student Life Advisors (HASLA)
The 2008 Ho‘opili Hou Student Leadership Conference entitled “How Deep are your Roots” theme has been developed by students and staff advisors to give student leaders an opportunity to network with other colleges and universities, attend workshops and seminars to build your organizations.
"How Deep are your Roots". The roots of a tree or of a kalo, sustains life. We mature through our college experiences and the seed of knowledge grows within us as our roots take course. We begin to build our foundation and any future encounters that we experience, we draw from these roots to confirm whom we are and where we are going. This innate ability to draw from our roots is the conceptual process of drawing the fruit of our work. It is through the fruit of our work that we sustain the cycle of giving and receiving knowledge, wisdom and the ability to grow together while defining our own selves.
As student leaders and student life professionals, our goal is to build an atmosphere that enriches student lives and where their roots are being cultivated in a nourishing environment. Whether it is a workshop, academics or recreational activities, we provide these means for their individual growth toward maturity. It is through the introduction of college life to all students that we offer the opportunity of the cycle of giving and receiving knowledge, wisdom and understanding each other.
This conference is designed to be an intensive living-learning experience for student leaders like yourself. Sessions run throughout the day and evening. Participants will be investing time and student activity fee money to participate, so come prepared to spend your time developing skills to help you, your organization, and your campus.
