Distinguished Alumni Awardee Speaks at Spring '07 Commencement
Mr. Kelly Moran graduated in 1983 with a degree in Political Science and in 1985 with a BS in Tropical Crop Production. In 2005 he was recognized at a Distinguished Alumni Awardee. He is the president of a real estate company in Hilo.

Alumni & Friends Christmas Social to be Held
UH Hilo ’s Alumni and Friends Association will have its 5 th Annual Holiday Social on Friday, Nov. 30, 2007 at Hilo Yacht Club.

2007-2008 Scholarships Awarded
The University of Hawaii at Hilo Alumni and Friends Association is proud to announce that Isaac Crosson, Hope Kalei, Angelica Stevens and Kiera Yabusaki have each been chosen to receive a $2,000 scholarship.
Students are selected based on academic merit and financial need. They also must be or have an immediate family member who is an alumnus of UH Hilo .
Crosson is a graduate of Hilo High School. He is majoring in Physics at UH Hilo with plans to continue on to pursue a PhD in Physics or Applied Mathematics. Crosson’s excellence in mathematics has earned him a research internship position in the Physics Department. His mother is a graduate of UH Hilo.
Kalei is a graduate of Waiakea High School where she was a part of the Who’s Who Among American High School Students. She earned a BS in Exercise and Sports Science at Oregon State University. She has returned to Hilo to pursue a nursing degree. Kalei’s future plans include opening a cardiac rehabilitation clinic to make health care more accessible to Native Hawaiians and local residents. Her mother is a graduate of UH Hilo.
Stevens is a graduate of Konawaena High School. After high school she attended UH Hilo where she earned a BA in Political Science. While pursuing her undergraduate degree, she won the Political Science Department’s “Best Research Paper”award. Stevens is currently pursuing her Masters Degree in China-US Relations. She is involved with restoration projects for the West Hawaii Veterans’ Cemetery Reforestation Project, Koa restoration in the O’oma-Makalapua forest tract and restoring her parents’ coffee farm.
Yabusaki, whose mother is also an alumnae of UH Hilo, is a graduate of Waiakea High School where she won numerous awards and held leadership roles in KIWIN and student government. She also participates in UH Hilo’s intramural bench press competition, tug of war competition and basketball. She is currently pursuing a double major in Business Administration and Communications at UH Hilo. Yabusaki’s future plans are to work in management, marketing or public relations.
A total of ten alumni scholarships have been awarded since 2004.The UH Hilo Alumni and Friends Association organizes two signature events annually to fund these scholarships. Held each spring, the Distinguished Alumni and Service Awards Banquet includes a silent auction component to raise such funds. The Alumni Scholarship Golf Tournament, initiated in 2004, takes place in the fall. This year’s 4th Annual Golf Tournament is set for October 13, 2007 at the Hapuna Golf Course. Attractive room rates have been secured with Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel for those wishing to stay and enjoy the weekend at the resort.
