Writing Placement
All entering freshmen and continuing or transfer students without English 100 or equivalent must take the UH Hilo/UH Manoa Writing Placement Examination. Performance in this examination will determine placement in the appropriate writing course. Registration forms for the examination are available online, from the UH Hilo Admissions Office or from the CAS Humanities Division Office. Contact Karla Hayashi for more details.
Writing Center Hours
The Writing Center, located in the Library's PC Lab, is open during Spring and Fall semesters. Check lab door for current schedule.
Those students who are unable to come to the Writing Center can still request tutorial assistance by visiting the UH-Hilo On-line Writing Lab (OWL). Student tutors will respond to on-line requests for assistance on a daily basis.
Tip - Plan Ahead
Incoming freshman must take three Writing Intensive courses before graduating. Think ahead and look for appropriate WI courses as you plan your curriculum.
