The Core Rules of Netiquette are excerpted from the book Netiquette by Virginia Shea

Netiquette is a set of rules for behaving properly online. Something about cyberspace makes it easy to forget that you are interacting with other real people.

Rule 1: Remember the Human. Would you say what you just typed to the person's face?

Rule 2: Know where you are in cyberspace. You are in an instructional space.

Rule 3: Respect other people's time and bandwidth. Keep messages as short as possible while still getting to the point.

Rule 4: Make yourself look good online. You will be judged by your spelling and grammar.

Rule 5: Share expert knowledge. You do have something to offer.

Rule 6: Help keep flame wars under control. "Flaming" is what people do when they express a strongly held opinion without holding back any emotion. This can destroy the camaraderie of a discussion group.

Rule 7: Be forgiving of other people's mistakes.
