UH Hilo's Osher program is operating at the North Hawai`i Education and Research Center (NHERC) in Honoka`a. The mission of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) program is to provide intellectually and socially enriching programs to adults (generally 45 and older). The curriculum is varied and responsive to the interests of the community.

Community members and OLLI coordinators collaborate to develop lectures, workshops, short courses, fitness programs, and educational activities and events. There are no tests, grades, or papers- just learning for pure enjoyment, personal growth and intellectual stimulation. The cost of Osher programs is flexible, depending on the duration and number of meetings. Individual sessions may meet during daytime or evening hours, seven days a week.

The OLLI program also offers memberships that entitle members to discounts on Osher classes, other offerings by UH Hilo 's College of Continuing Education and Community Service (CCECS), and discounts at local retailers.

The OLLI program at NHERC will include an OLLI center where participants and volunteers will have access to computers and a place to socialize during regular business hours. North Hawai`i OLLI coordinator Bill Kunstman is also working with the Office of Aging and Hamakua Partners in Eldercare to develop a resource center to address the informational needs of older adults.

If you would like more information about the OLLI program in North Hawai`i , including volunteer & teaching opportunities, please contact Bill Kunstman at 775-8890 or wkunstma@hawaii.edu.
