SeniorNet Computer classes-Hilo
These classes are specially designed for those over age 50. SeniorNet members receive a $5 discount on all classes. Call 974-7664 to register.
All courses are held at the SeniorNet Lab in Hilo, which is located at the Manono Campus, Bldg 380, Rm 36.
All About Ebay
Learn how to buy and sell on Ebay with tips from an experienced Ebay trader. Instructed by Allan Goodson.

All About iPods
Have you ever wondered how to create a playlist or sync your iPod to your
computer? Glenn Grace will show you how to get music into your computer and
onto your iPod Touch or iPod Nano in a few easy steps.

Basic Photo Editing 1
Learn how to use the popular program Adobe Photoshop Elements 7 to improve
your pictures. Marilyn Kamei will teach you how to adjust the color balance, get
rid of red-eye, and crop out distracting picture elements. Please bring 2 or 3 of
your own pictures to class so that we can scan them into the computer or even
better, bring them in digital format on a USB flash drive or media card. Limit 6.

Basic Photo Editing 2
This class builds on what is taught in Basic Photo Editing 1. Marilyn Kamei will
show you how to use some of the more advanced tools and filters in Adobe
Photoshop Elements 7 to create interesting effects with your photos. Please bring
2 or 3 of your own pictures to class so that we can scan them into the computer,
or even better, bring them in digital format on a USB flash drive or media card.

Creating a Personal Recipe Book
Marilyn Kamei will demonstrate how you can take a pile of recipes you have cut
out of magazines or handwritten on index cards and turn them into a beautiful
40-page spiral bound book complete with pictures! No special program to buy,
you do it all with Microsoft Word! Limit 6.

Digital Camera Basics
Are your photos trapped in your digital camera? June Kawashima will show you
how to easily load the pictures into your computer, save them, print them, and
copy them onto a CD. She will also demonstrate how to connect your camera to
your TV and view/delete your pictures on the big screen! We will also go onto
the internet and order photos from a professional processor, and take a field trip
to learn how to use one of those photo machines in a store. Please bring your
camera, cables, and owner’s manual to class. Limit 6.

Excel Spreadsheet
You will learn how to use the “new” 2007 version of Microsoft Excel to crunch
numbers, write formulas and create a simple database for Christmas card lists,
golf scores, CD/book inventories. Lucy Maloney will show you how Excel makes
it possible to do “math without tears”!

File Management
Lucy Maloney will cover the basics of how to save your picture, music or text
files in your computer and FIND them again! We will also cover how to save files
to removable media such as CDs or jump/flash/thumb//USB drives.

How to Get More Out of Your Cell Phone
Want to do more on your cell phone than send and receive calls? June Kawashima will show you how to save and retrieve your most-used numbers, be reminded of your appointments, and change to a different ring tone.
Your manual is a necessity because each phone operates differently. Limit 4.

Laptops
Greg Navarro will show you why laptops are a lot more than just shrunken
desktops. He will discuss choosing a laptop, power saving features and battery
issues as well as what you need to get on the internet with a wireless connection
thru WIFI hotspots and USB modems.

Mac Basics
Glenn Grace will review such basic operations as reading and writing to a CD/
DVD, and creating/saving/ copying a file. We have 5 Macs in the classroom---4
Leopards and 1 Tiger (operating systems). Please BYOM (Bring Your Own
MacBook) if have one. Limit 10—5 BYOM students and 5 using our lab Macs.

Make Your Photos Into a DVD Slideshow
Have you ever wondered what to do with all those wonderful digital photos
you’ve been taking? What about making them into a slideshow with music and
burning it to a DVD that you can mail to your friends? Marilyn Kamei will
demonstrate how to transfer photos from your digital camera into the computer,
make them into a slideshow, add music and burn to a DVD. The software
program used costs less than $25. Please bring at least 20 digital photos with you
either in a camera, memory chip or on a CD. Blank DVDs will be provided.

Make Your Own Greeting Cards
Marilyn Kamei will teach you how to make your own holiday cards and calendars using Hallmark Card Studio —-just in time for Christmas! Limit 6.

Quicken
Learn how to use the computer to organize your finances. Quicken makes it easy
to balance your checkbook and shows you where your money goes by category.
It will print out instant reports, charts and graphs based on your spending
patterns making it very easy to itemize your deductions at tax time. Instructor is
Roberta Barra Ph.D., CPA, UHH Assistant Accounting Professor. Limit 6.

Transferring Music from LPs to CDs
Dig out those dusty LP records and tape cassettes from the back of your closet
and bring them to class. Greg Navarro will show you how to copy your music
into the computer and then make a CD. Please bring 90 minutes of music in
either LP or cassette format. Blank CDs will be provided. Limit 6.

Troubleshooting: When Good Computers Go Bad
Too bad computers aren’t like toasters—which work perfectly until they die, then
you just throw them out and buy another! Unfortunately computers are a little
more expensive and much less reliable. Glenn Grace will teach you what to do
when trouble strikes so that you don’t have that awful helpless feeling. He will
also teach you what you can do to help prevent problems before they appear.
