Ralstonia solanacearum causing bacterial wilt on edible ginger in Hawaiʻi

A grower recently brought by some samples of ginger. He was probably concerned about the flash of yellow in the foliage, and asked us to test it for the presence of R. solanacearum (it was present). It's pretty early in the season, and the ginger's very young. An outbreak this early will make managing this field very, very difficult. Close up of some of the rhizomes here.
We did more tests than usual with these samples because some of our colleagues are interested in particular aspects of this bacteria and its neighbors.
