Racing Rules:

Theory and Concrete Situations

As Janet C. Baxter, President of the US Sailing wrote, the racing rules are the foundation of Competition. All elements of racing rely on this source: From how you and your boat interact on the water to how races are organized and run.

US Sailing is the US authority for sailing and represents the International Sailing Federation (ISAF), the World Sailing Authority in all United States territorial waters.

As part of the membership, US Sailing providesThe Racing Rules of sailing 2005-2008. Volunteers and staff have worked hard to bring this book ready before the new rules go into force on January 1, 2005. These rules are the reference for 4 years, and are traditionally discussed, and corrected, if needed, after each Olympic Games.

Discussions on the green carpet could ruin the result of a race, but they are part of the game. Try to learn the rules, and we will help you to understand better through some specific race situations.
