Evening: Departure from Beijing to Taiyuan, Shanxi Province by train (T219, 21:30 p.m.)
June 2 (Saturday)
Morning: Arrive at Taiyuan (a great center of trade and industry in ancient China)
Whole day: Field trip to Ping-yao to tour the Ming-ching buildings & architectures of the Chiao village, the ancient city wall, Double Tree Temple, and also to visit Chiao-cheng, the cradle of Pure Land Buddhism, to see Hsuan-zhung Temple (the first Pure Land Buddhist Temple in the world)
Evening: Stay at Taiyuan (Yu-yuan Hotel)
June 3 (Sunday)
Whole day: Field trip to Heavenly Dragon Caves, Jinci Temple, Chongshan Monastery and Double Pagoda Temple
Evening: Departure from Taiyuan to Xian by train (T535, 17:33 p.m.)
June 4 (Monday)
Morning: Arrive at Man (the ancient capital of China; the ancient East-West Center and the starting point of the Silk Road) at 6:52 a.m.
Whole day: Field trip to Terracotta Army of the Ch'in dynasty (221 B.C.-207 B.C.), Hua-ching Pool (the hot spring fountain of Yang Kwei-hui, the most beautiful lady in Chinese history), Great Wild Goose Pagoda & Small Wild Goose Pagoda of the Sui (589-618) & T'ang (618-907) dynasties, ancient City Walls, Confucian monuments, Christian monument, Bell Tower and Drum Tower.
Evening: optional activity-the imperial music and dance of the T'ang dynasty
Stay at Yjan (Chang-cheng Castle Hotel)
June 5 (Tuesday)
Departure from Xian to Jiayuguan (Jiayu Pass, the ancient outpost of the Han Dynasty, 206 B.C.-220 A.D.) by train (T367, 10:28 a.m).
June 6 (Wednesday)
Arrive at Jiayuquan (the terminus of the Great Wall) at 15:38 p.m.
Afternoon and Evening: Stay at Jiayuguan Hotel & tour the town
June 7 (Thursday)
Morning: Field trip to Jiayuquan Fort (the west end of the Ming Great Wall)
Afternoon: Tour Xincheng Underground Gallery (Xincheng dixia hualang), First Beacon Tower (diyi dun) and go to Dunhuang (the pivotal point of interchange between the ancient China and the outside world) by bus
Evening: Field trip to Crescent Moon Lake (yueyaquan), White Horse Pagoda & Singing Sand Mountain (ming-sha-shan) Stay at Dunhuang (Dunhuang Hotel)
June 8 (Friday)
Morning: Field trip to Dunhuang Caves (the superb Buddhist caves under the desert & the largest living art gallery in the world); the Mogao (Desert High) Caves, the greatest Buddhist grottoes, sculptures and paintings made from 366 A.D.
Afternoon: Departure from Dunhuang to Liuyuan by bus
Evening: Departure from Liuyuan to Turpan by train (T507, 6:18 p.m.)
June 9 (Saturday)
Morning: Arrive at Turpan (the ancient kingdom of the Uigur) at 4:52 a.m.
Whole day: Field trip to Gaochang Ruins (the kingdom of the T'ang dynasty), Bezeklik Thousand Buddha Caves and Atsana Graves
Evening: Stay at Turpan (Turpan Hotel)
June 10 (Sunday)
Whole day: Field trip to Emin Minaret (Sugongta), Grape Valley, Flaming Mountains, Jiaoch Ruins (the garrison of the Han dynasty), and go to Urumqi (the capital of Xinjiang Autonomous Region) by bus
Evening: Stay at Urumqi (Islam Hotel, Ishulan Tafangtien)
June 11 (Monday)
Morning: Field trip to Tienchi (Lake of Heaven), Uigur tents and houses
Afternoon: Fly from Urumqi to Xian
Evening: Stay at Xian (Chang-cheng Castle Hotel)
June 12 (Tuesday)
Morning: Fly back from Xian to Hong Kong, Taipei and Honolulu
